■ Background and Purpose

As the acceptance of foreign workers continues to advance in regional economies, there is an increasing need to develop a financial environment in which foreign residents in Japan can smoothly receive their salaries and smoothly remit funds back to their home countries.

In addition, both the G20 and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) have set targets for the improvement of cost, speed, access, and transparency in cross-border payments*¹. The Hokuriku Bank will aim to address these challenges and enhance convenience for individual and corporate customers. By collaborating with a fund transfer service provider, The Hokuriku Bank will be able to provide, in addition to conventional SWIFT remittances, a new option for its customers to make use of an international remittance service which utilizes new financial technologies.

Since commencing operations in 2010, SBI Remit has provided low-cost, fast international remittances, along with multilingual customer support and a wide range of other receiving options. SBI Remit also makes use of financial technologies such as US Ripple’s distributed ledger technology, and has worked to enhance convenience, particularly in the area of small-value remittances to home countries.

Through this partnership, The Hokuriku Bank will introduce SBI Remit’s international remittance service to its customers, and SBI Remit will provide multilingual support for procedures from membership registration to remittance. This will expand the options available to individual and corporate customers, including foreign residents in Japan, based on the purpose and amount of each remittance, while also improving the efficiency of The Hokuriku Bank’s remittance operations.

The two companies will leverage their respective strengths to provide secure, fast, and highly convenient international remittance services.

SBI Remit will continue to develop and provide highly convenient services that meet the diverse needs of customers, including foreign residents in Japan, in line with the SBI Group’s commitment to delivering new value through a customer-centric approach.
